Business Designer

Job description

Doblin is looking to hire business designers and strategists at all levels to join its growing practice in London.

Business designers at Doblin are flexible, applying strategic, operational and organisational lenses to help create new and viable businesses for our clients. They are highly analytical—adept with quantitative data and financial models. They are creative—capable of seeing potential directions and sensing opportunities. And they are experimental—eager to put ideas into action, crystallise thinking through prototyping, and test hypotheses against reality.

They move with ease between the world of our clients’ concerns and capabilities, and the world of the customers, consumers and citizens that we serve.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Planning and executing business and economic research
  • Synthesising business insights and communicating them in compelling ways
  • Collaborating with teams of designers and design researchers to identify innovation opportunities and develop propositions that create value for people and client organisations
  • Analysing and modelling how businesses and organisations work now, and how they could work in the future
  • Designing, planning and executing business prototyping activities, to test and refine our hypotheses in-market
  • Providing business advice to clients across industries and sectors

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate these characteristics:

  • Track record of launching new ventures and initiatives, in start-up, corporate or institutional contexts (depending on level of experience)
  • Passion for seeing innovations and new businesses into the world
  • Strong understanding and experience of business domains, including market economics, financial modelling, competitive strategy, organisational design, marketing strategy and execution, operations and organisational change
  • An ability to prioritise and rapidly conduct business analysis in unfamiliar industries and markets
  • Exceptionally strong communication skills, both in-person and written
  • A collaborative working style, and the ability to work closely with creatives and colleagues from other disciplines
  • An understanding of the human-centred design process and design thinking
  • Comfort and familiarity in drawing recommendations from quantitative analysis
  • The ability to work in dynamic conditions, and transition quickly between collaborative and individual work

We are a global design-led innovation consultancy with over 30 years of experience helping corporate and institutional clients to grow, evolve and create new propositions. Since the 1980s, Doblin has pioneered the application of design methods, social science and business strategy to innovation challenges.

Our growing London practice offers the opportunity to work alongside a talented team of designers, researchers and strategists on some of the world’s biggest and most complex challenges.
