Design Researcher


What we're looking for

The German Doblin team is looking for a skilled and experienced Design Researcher to join our growing team in Hamburg, Germany.

As a Design Researcher with Doblin you will become an active member of multidisciplinary project teams working across industries at the forefront of innovation. Your role will require you to plan and lead ethnographic research, conduct synthesis of insights and develop digital and analogue solutions tailored around immediate and latent user needs.

It is this understanding of behaviour that generates and informs great design; our researchers discover, distil and communicate insights ultimately to create change and drive transformation.

About your role

  • Engage clients and internal teams throughout the process of exploring new business opportunities
  • Design, plan and execute user research to unearth immediate and latent user needs
  • Interpret and communicate research insights and their implications for new propositions
  • Create compelling user stories that breathe life into key insights and inform design
  • Represent the design discipline and its value to non-designers internally and at client organizations

What you should bring

  • Passion and curiosity for learning about the world, human behavior, and the motivations that lie beneath the surface to create solutions that fit into peoples’ lives
  • Experience conducting interviews, observations sessions, remote studies and participatory design
  • Ability to transform research observations into critical insights and actionable recommendations
  • Interest in collaborating and working on multidisciplinary teams with designers and non-designers
  • Comfort with ambiguity and experimentation, and the ability to quickly dive into a new domains
  • Strong planning, organisation and documentation skills

Basic requirements

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field (human factors, sociology, psychology, anthropology, innovation)
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience at an innovation strategy consultant or design research role at a corporate entity
  • Expert knowledge of the processes and tools of innovation research, from research collection through synthesis (with an emphasis on user-centered/design research)
  • Technical skills in tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Invision, Power Point and others
  • A passion for and expertise in the innovation process and the role that both strategic and formal design can play in the process
  • Compelling written and spoken communication in German and English
  • Interest in travel at least 50%
